Audiobook speech clarity: how to check it with headphones
Check audiobook speech clarity by replaying the same passage and changing one setting at a time. First confirm that audio reaches the intended headphones, then compare volume, speed and another device. This helps separate playback issues from the chosen voice or problems in the source text.
Choose a passage that reveals the problem
Open the book and press Play. Audio preparation begins when you start playback; importing the text alone does not start it. Choose a few neighbouring sentences containing ordinary words, a name and a pause between phrases. Note the chapter and opening words so you can return to the same passage.
For example, if only a surname is unclear while surrounding words sound distinct, focus on that surname. Comparing unrelated passages makes the test less useful because sentence length, punctuation and vocabulary all change.
Confirm where the audio is playing
Open your device’s sound settings and check that the intended headphones are selected. A connected headset does not necessarily mean the browser is using it: sound may still come from a speaker or another connected device. Replay your chosen passage after changing the output.
If speech cuts out or you hear clicks, try another connection or another pair of headphones, if available. Treat this as a comparison rather than proof that the headset is faulty. There is no need to change the book’s voice during this part of the check.
Test volume separately from speed
Keep playback speed at 1 first and use your device controls to choose a comfortable volume. There is no universal percentage: the same slider position produces different results on different equipment. If raising the volume only makes unclear speech louder, return to a comfortable setting before continuing.
Next, compare the passage at 1 and, for example, 1.15. Listen for word endings and sentence boundaries. Changing playback speed does not require new audio, so you can make this comparison without switching the voice or model.
Repeat the test on another device
If another device is available, open the same book under the same Telegram account. Check the selected voice and model, restore the previous speed and find the same passage. Where possible, use the same headphones to compare devices without changing several conditions together.
Stop playback on the first device before starting the second. If speech is unclear only with one device and headphone combination, examine that device’s sound settings further. If the same words remain unclear everywhere, move on to the text and voice comparison.
Check unclear words against the original
Open the original document outside TGRadio and locate the troublesome sentence. Look for split words, abbreviations, missing punctuation and stray characters. For example, a line break inside a surname may explain an odd reading better than headphone settings. Import extracts text; it does not repair it.
If the original looks correct, compare the passage with another voice or model. That choice requires new audio to be prepared after you press Play. Correct source errors outside TGRadio and upload the revised document, since there is no built-in text or pronunciation editor.
