Different Text in EPUB and FB2: Check the Edition

If the same book sounds different in EPUB and FB2, compare the actual text in both files first. Identical titles may hide different translations, revisions, or abridged editions. The format itself does not rewrite sentences, and a voice cannot restore paragraphs missing from the imported text.

Compare the edition details

Open both files in an ebook reader and locate the title page, translator credits, editorial information, and description of the contents. File names are unreliable evidence because they may have been shortened or changed. For example, one file may include an author’s introduction while the other starts directly with the first chapter.

Record the differences separately. If the translators differ, different wording is expected even when the plot and number of chapters are the same.

Match passages by their content

Do not compare only the first minute of playback: introductory material can vary in length. Find a recognizable event or distinctive phrase within a main chapter. Compare several sentences before and after it. Page numbers are less useful because ebook pagination depends on the reading program and its settings.

If the wording already differs in the source files, the difference precedes narration. Switching the speech model will not make those passages identical or select a different translation.

Look for omissions and extra material

Compare the sequence of chapters, introductions, afterwords, and appendices. A missing story in a collection cannot be restored by changing the file extension. For example, two editions may share a title while only one includes the author’s letters after the main work. Check the actual paragraphs near the end, not just the contents page.

Note cuts within chapters separately. Several missing sentences require a different comparison from a completely absent appendix: locate the exact point where the versions diverge.

Distinguish contents from import order

If the source paragraphs match, examine their organization. EPUB import follows the spine order and headings in internal HTML files. FB2 import uses the top-level sections of the main body and excludes notes and comments. The same explanation stored in different structural blocks may therefore appear differently in the extracted text.

Avoid concluding that one format is always more complete. Compare the particular files and the location of the material you need within each one.

Choose using passages you have checked

Decide which translation and set of contents you want, then choose the corresponding file. To compare narration, keep the voice and playback speed the same so differences in delivery are less distracting. Select the book, press Play, and compare available audio passages with the paragraphs you identified in the source.

If necessary text exists in the source but was excluded during import, prepare a separate text copy outside TGRadio. Retain both original editions so that you can check individual sentences when another difference appears.
