EPUB narration by chapter: how to check reading order

Before listening to EPUB narration by chapter, check the imported section order. TGRadio reads the EPUB’s spine sequence and headings in its internal HTML files. An unusual file structure can produce results that differ from the contents list you expect. Start playback and compare the opening, adjacent chapters and ending with the source before a longer listening session.

Check reading order as well as the contents list

The spine specifies the sequence of content inside an EPUB. A contents list helps with navigation, but its appearance alone does not confirm that sequence is correct. Open the source EPUB in a reading application and compare several adjacent sections with the imported result in TGRadio.

For example, the preface should lead into chapter one, followed by chapter two. If material from the end of the book appears between them after import, investigate the source file. Changing voice or speed cannot repair text order: narration uses the text extracted during import.

Look beyond the chapter label

TGRadio uses headings from the EPUB’s internal HTML files. Compare a displayed title with the actual content rather than judging the label in isolation. Repeated or unhelpful headings can make navigation confusing even when the text itself follows the correct sequence.

For example, two sections might both be named “Text,” while one begins with chapter one and the other continues chapter two. Note their opening phrases and compare them with the source. A repeated label is not enough to establish that a chapter is missing; check what each section contains.

Inspect the text across a chapter boundary

An EPUB’s internal packaging can differ from the book’s visible structure. One chapter may span multiple HTML files, while one file may contain several chapters. Check the text before expecting every technical section to correspond to one complete literary chapter.

Choose a transition and compare the previous chapter’s final sentence with the next chapter’s opening. For example, a finished conversation should lead into the next chapter heading rather than repeat the same paragraph. This spot check can reveal an omission or duplicate without requiring you to listen through the entire book.

Use phrases rather than printed page numbers

EPUB narration does not promise to match the page numbering of a printed edition. Locate passages using a chapter title and a distinctive phrase. This is especially useful when comparing the source on another screen or in a different reading application.

Once you have checked the structure, choose a voice and press Play. Importing alone does not start audio preparation. Listen to the opening and any transition you are unsure about. An audio segment is not necessarily a whole chapter, so hearing its beginning does not confirm that the entire chapter is ready.

Correct structural problems outside TGRadio

If the source EPUB has an error, work on a copy in an external editor if you know how to edit the format, or obtain a corrected file from a source available to you. TGRadio has no built-in editor for book text or structure. Renaming the file does not change its internal reading sequence.

After correcting it, import a new version and repeat the same checks: opening, problematic transition, and ending. If a passage depends on an image or formula, consult the original separately. Import does not recognize those elements or turn them into a spoken description.
