How to choose a book narration service for your needs

Choose a book narration service by testing the task you need it to handle with your own file. First decide where you will listen and whether you need a separate audio file. Then check import, continuation, offline access, and text processing. A voice you enjoy cannot replace a feature essential to your plans.

Write down the result you need

Describe a typical session: your device, internet availability, journey length, and whether you switch devices. For example, a trip without internet requires the relevant chapters to be saved and accessible on your phone. Using a separate audio player makes file export an essential requirement.

Separate essentials from preferences. TGRadio supports book listening in a browser and Mini App, but it does not export MP3 or M4B files. If you require a separate audio file, this answers a key selection question before you spend time testing voices and settings.

Test your actual text source

Use a book you genuinely intend to listen to. Check more than its extension: inspect the beginning, a chapter transition, and a difficult passage after import. A PDF filename does not tell you whether the file contains selectable text. Scans require recognition, which TGRadio does not provide.

TGRadio accepts EPUB, FB2, TXT, and PDFs with a text layer. Files are limited to 10 MB, and extracted text to 2 million characters per book. A public link may lead to a file or an HTML page containing text. Importing one page does not mean following every chapter link or pagination.

Separate narration costs from technical limits

Check audio preparation charges, repeat listening, and library limits separately. Book narration in TGRadio is currently free for everyone, with no monthly character limit. This does not promise that these terms will last forever or remove technical restrictions.

A personal library holds up to 30 books and 20 million characters in total. Those figures describe library capacity, not a monthly narration allowance. For example, if your library is full, review its contents before concluding that you have exhausted a speech preparation quota.

Try access and offline listening on your device

To test continuation, open the book on another device using the same Telegram account. Your position is shared through your profile. Offline audio, however, stays on the device where it was saved. Saving a chapter on a computer does not make it available offline on your phone.

Save a chapter in advance, then open the Offline library on the device you will take with you. Test playback without a connection. If listening with the screen off or while switching apps matters, test that in your own browser. Background playback is not guaranteed in every browser.

Run a short trial and check text handling

Choose a short passage, press Play, and check how clearly your particular text comes across, including names, dialogue, and headings. Change one setting at a time. Playback speed does not require new narration; another voice or model requires a different audio version.

Before uploading personal material, consider that text segments are sent to a speech synthesis service. Uploads are not published automatically, but processing is not confined to your device. Use works you have the right to use. Record your trial results against your essential requirements, including any limitations you found.
