Book Narration with Footnotes: Prepare the Explanations

For book narration with footnotes, place essential explanations in the main text beside the relevant passage before importing. TGRadio does not switch between a sentence and its note on the listener’s command. Check the source file first: a visible footnote marker does not mean its explanation will appear in the audio.

Locate the explanation behind the marker

Open the book in an ebook reader and inspect several notes across different chapters. Find out whether each explanation appears below a paragraph, at the end of a chapter, or in a separate section. Compare the marker with the full note. For example, a number after a surname might lead to a biographical detail that the main story does not require.

Read the surrounding sentences too: the explanation may apply to the whole paragraph rather than its final word.

Account for FB2 and EPUB import behavior

For FB2 files, TGRadio extracts the top-level sections of the main body and excludes notes and comments blocks. Do not rely on hearing an explanation stored there. A number left in the main text does not bring the note’s content with it. Prepare a separate copy with essential explanations included in the narrative.

EPUB import follows the spine order and headings in internal HTML files. That does not guarantee a note will be read immediately after its marker.

Choose the notes needed while listening

Review the notes and decide which ones clarify the current passage. A translation of a foreign-language remark may be useful immediately. A lengthy bibliography may be better kept for separate reading. Preserve the original file and edit a copy in an external editor. TGRadio does not have a built-in text editor.

When unsure, read the paragraph without its note. Check whether the meaning remains clear, including any negatives, dates, qualifications, or conditions that affect the statement.

Place explanations at clear breaks

A short explanation can become a separate sentence after a complete thought. For example: “He described the expression as archaic. Note: this means the word is no longer commonly used.” For a longer comment, add ordinary words that mark its beginning and the return to the main text. Make these changes outside TGRadio; the app does not insert them automatically.

Remove obsolete markers after moving a note, and check that another copy of the explanation has not been left elsewhere.

Listen across the transition

Save the prepared copy in a supported format, then use Books and Upload a book to add it. Select the book and voice, and press Play. Import extracts the text; audio preparation begins when playback is requested. Listen to an available passage containing a note and compare it with your edited copy.

Check whether the note’s connection is clear, whether the return to the story is understandable, and whether anything repeats. Correct problems in the external file before importing another version.
