How to test an audiobook without internet before a trip

To test an audiobook without internet, disconnect your device completely and play saved sections from the Offline library. Check several places rather than just the opening: a working first fragment does not confirm that later chapters are saved. Use the device you plan to take on your trip.

Choose the part you need for the journey

Decide which chapters you expect to listen to before starting the test. For example, if you are continuing from chapter five, checking chapter one tells you little. Note the first and last chapters you need so that an available introduction does not get mistaken for the whole planned section.

While connected, open the book and check the saving process for those chapters. Save chapter offline and Save book offline generate missing audio fragments, download them and store them locally. Wait for saving to finish. Having the text in Books does not establish that the audio is already on this device.

Disconnect every internet connection

A test with mobile data still enabled can hide missing audio because the app can access the network. Turn on airplane mode, then check that Wi-Fi is also off. Some devices allow Wi-Fi to remain enabled in airplane mode. Disconnect an Ethernet cable too if you are testing on a computer.

Open the Offline library in the same browser or Mini App where you saved the book. Stay signed in during the test: signing out removes local audio. A different browser will not test the copy stored in the original one.

Sample the beginning, middle and end

Play the first chapter you need, one near the middle of your saved section, and the last planned chapter. Listen briefly in each. For a long chapter, also try a point towards its end. One playable fragment does not demonstrate that every other fragment is available.

Check a transition between adjacent chapters as well. For example, starting chapter six directly and reaching it from chapter five test two actions you may use during the journey. If playback stops, note the chapter and position rather than recording only that the book failed.

Reconnect to fill the gaps

Restore your connection and open each missing section. Press Play if audio preparation needs to begin. Importing a book extracts its text; later fragments are prepared as you listen. Simply leaving an imported book open does not mean the entire audiobook will become ready in the background.

Save the required available sections again. Keep the same voice during saving and testing because another voice needs a new audio version. Changing playback speed does not require new speech generation.

Run the failed checks again

Disconnect once more and revisit the exact places that failed. Then close and reopen the Offline library while still disconnected. This checks whether you can access the saved book after reopening it, rather than merely continue a fragment that was already playing.

Avoid clearing site data or signing out before departure. If you save additional chapters or select another voice after testing, check the affected sections separately.
